The Meatsmith Plate is a limited edition piece developed in collaboration with Cone 11 Ceramics, the makers of the original cabinet trays in our Fitzroy store.

We wanted to create a hardworking plate; one generous enough for a T-bone, versatile enough for the centre of the table, and made to be used often.

In keeping with a nose-to-tail philosophy, the plate's glaze incorporates bone ash made from beef bones sourced through our butchery. Though often replaced by synthetic alternatives today, traditionally bone ash was an essential component of ceramic glazes. Here the bones were calcined at 1000 degrees, before being ball-milled into a fine powder, then sieved into the glaze, contributing to the plate's opaque, satin finish. 

The plates themselves are formed from locally sourced white stoneware clay from Axedale, near Bendigo, before being glazed and fired.
