What are pickles

Pickles are a vibrant style of preserved vegetable made with vinegar, salt and sugar. Found in food cultures across the world, they have been traditionally made to preserve in-season vegetables for use in future months. We have curated a selection of pickles online for you to add to plentiful charcuterie boards, sandwiches and burgers. They add a brilliant zing of flavour and vibrance of spice to many dishes.

How to make pickles

Pickles are generally made with vegetables brined with vinegar, salt, sugar and spices. These pickles can be produced with raw or cooked vegetables. Generally, the vegetable will be thinly sliced before being submerged in brine of vinegar, salt and sugar. There are many ways in terms of how to make pickles from cucumbers. In general, a brine is created by dissolving salt and sugar into white wine vinegar. Slice the cucumbers thinly then add to the brine. Pack the cucumbers into a sterilized jar, add spices like whole peppercorns or mustard seeds then seal the jar. The pickles will improve over time but are generally ready to eat within 3 to 4 weeks.

How long do pickles last

Pickles were traditionally made to last many months, as they are a form of food preservation for future use. Stored in a cool, dark place, the pickle brine allows for the vegetables to maintain their freshness without spoiling. As always, we recommend checking the use-by date on the labelling to check accurate use-by date information.
