What is panettone?
This delicious Italian bread dates back to the early Renaissance period, when wheat was used only at Christmas time due to exorbitant prices. However, the version we know today was first recorded in 1839 in Milan. Made with butter, sugar, raisins, fruits, and peels, it has a light and fluffy texture. Whilst today you can find many different flavoured panettone, the traditional bread did not include chocolate.
How to serve panettone?
The most popular way to enjoy this bread after the main meal is with a drizzle of crema inglese, a type of which is custard. It is also delicious with nutella, mascarpone cream or even as panettone french toast. As it is a bread, the easiest way to serve it is to use a serrated knife and slice into wedges.
