Lasagne
Our housemade lasagne - a Meatsmith weeknight favourite. Made with our own bolognese sauce, ricotta, pasta and parmesan.
What is lasagne?
Lasagne is a pasta dish made by layering sheets of pasta with a flavoursome meat ragu and bechamel sauce that is then baked in a hot oven until golden and caramelised. Originating from the Emilia Romagna region of Italy (the home to the classic ragu sauce we know as bolognese), this dish is loved across the world. There are many variations on the traditional lasagne, including eggplant lasagne, a lasagne made with meatballs, vegetarian lasagne, and many other popular baked pasta dishes.
How to make lasagne?
Lasagne can be time consuming to make at home, which is likely why our ready to go lasagne is so popular. For lasagne, it is necessary to prepare a bolognese sauce (or take the easy route by using our ready made sauce, instead). Another essential element for lasagne is a rich bechamel sauce made with butter, flour and milk. To assemble, spread a layer of the bolognese in a baking dish, top with a layer of bechamel, and finish with a layer of dried lasagne sheets. Sprinkle over parmesan cheese before continuing the same layering pattern until the dish is full. Lasagne should be baked in a hot oven for 30-40 minutes. It is delicious topped with crisped ‘nduja salami for a kick of heat. Find our ‘nduja here and pan fry it before crumbling over the top of our lasagne.
What to serve with lasagne?
Lasagne is delicious served with crusty garlic bread to mop up the sauces and a fresh green salad to help cut through the richness of the dish.
