Avonmore Farms Dorper Lamb
We always get rather enthusiastic when we get to work new farmers who are passionate about producing quality products through ethical farming. Paul Moran of Avonmore Farms, is just that farmer. After retiring from the wine world in Melbourne, Paul has lived and worked on the 100 acre Avonmore Farms (halfway between Echuca and Bendigo) for over 20 years. His enthusiasm and energy for hospitality and locally grown food and wine inspired him to start rearing Dorper lambs about 8 years ago.
With a concentration on sustainability, animal welfare and regenerative farming practices Avonmore Farms operate biodynamically where they can, encouraging natural flora and fauna to thrive, spurring strong soil health, pasture vitality and a quality grazing environment.
Rather than being bred for wool harvest, Dorper lambs and bred especially for eating - and as such, they are known to be the "Wagyu of the lamb world" with incredible marbling and a rich, earthy flavour.
